Author’s POV
> “Sana…”
That single word came through the phone — soft, trembling, and enough to freeze Sana in place.
Her heart skipped a beat. That voice — she knew it. She knew it too well. For a few seconds, she couldn’t even breathe. Her mind refused to believe what her ears had just heard.
She stood completely still, eyes wide, fingers trembling as she held the phone tighter. The world around her suddenly felt silent… like time had paused just for that voice.
> “Sana… it’s me.”
Her throat went dry.
> “M–mamma?” she whispered, almost afraid to believe it.
And just like that, her whole world tilted.
It was her mother.
---
Sana slowly sat down on the edge of the bed, clutching the phone close to her ear. Her heartbeat was so loud she could almost hear it echo. It had been a whole year — one long, painful year — since she last heard that voice. A voice she had missed every single day but thought she’d never hear again.
---
Sana wasn’t from Korea. She was originally from Bangladesh — a simple girl with big dreams and a heart full of hope. She had gone to London to study fashion design, determined to chase her dreams and live freely, away from her family’s strict expectations.
And that’s where she met Kim Taehyung.
Sana was in the Fashion Designing department, and Taehyung studied Broadcast and Entertainment. The same university but Totally different worlds. Honestly, they might’ve never met if it wasn’t for their friends.
Taehyung’s best friend Jimin was one of Sana’s classmates, and Sana’s best friend Riya was in Taehyung’s department. Their circles overlapped, and their paths crossed — fatefully, beautifully.
At first, it was just casual — group hangouts, teasing, laughter. But soon, they started talking more often. They began waiting for each other after classes, sharing coffee breaks, and sitting side by side in the campus garden, lost in endless conversations about music, dreams, and life.
They became best friends. Little by little, friendship turned into something softer — something deeper.and eventually, without even realizing it, love bloomed between them.
---
Their relationship was private from her family, but not from the university. Everyone in the university knew them as “the perfect couple.”
And honestly, they were.
They were both away from home, so they created a new home together — just the two of them. Eventually, they moved in together.
Their small London apartment wasn’t fancy, but it was full of love — midnight ramen, messy laughter, movie nights under a blanket, and sleepy morning kisses. They built a little world that was entirely theirs.
Sana had never felt this safe, this loved. Taehyung was her comfort, her home, her everything.
And for Taehyung, she was his whole universe.
---
But deep inside, Sana always knew that her happiness came with a cost.
Her parents were traditional — especially her mother.
Her mother loved her, but she was strict about relationship and cared deeply about what society thought. And for her father , family honor and reputation meant everything.
So, Sana never told them about Taehyung. She knew they wouldn’t accept him — a Korean man, a Christian, from a different culture. It was too much for her family to understand.
For three beautiful years, Sana and Taehyung lived their dream life together in London. Until one day, everything changed.
Her parents called.
They said they missed her, begged her to come home after her final exams. And even though Sana hesitated, she couldn’t refuse them — she still loved her family deeply.
She thought maybe… once she was home, she could tell them the truth and they would understand.
But she was wrong.
---
When Sana came back to Bangladesh, she found out her parents had already arranged her marriage — with her old school classmate, Tamim.
Tamim was rich, well-educated, and from a respected family — exactly what her parents wanted. And he had been liking Sana since childhood. But for her, those feelings never existed.
Her heart belonged to someone else — to Taehyung.
When she told her parents the truth, the situation turned worse than she could ever imagine.
Her father got furious, her mother cried endlessly, and relatives gave long lectures about “family honor” and “what people will say.”
They called her love wrong, a sin.
They called Taehyung “inappropriate for her and her family”
And they called her “immature to understand ”
They took away her phone, locked her in her room, and said she would marry Tamim — no matter what as the wedding date was already fixed.
---
But Sana didn’t give up.
On her wedding day, with help from her London friends, she ran away.
Still in her bridal dress, she rushed through the airport with tears in her eyes but hope in her heart — straight into Taehyung’s arms.
They left everything behind and flew to Korea.
A few weeks later, they got married quietly — no grand wedding, no family, no traditions. Just them and their love.
That’s why, even now, the world didn’t know about their marriage — it all happened so suddenly.
---
It had been a year since then.
A full year of love, laughter, and healing.
But in that entire year, no one from her family had reached out — no calls, no messages, nothing.
Her parents had completely cut her off, saying she had ruined their respect and reputation.
Her father, especially, had gone silent. he was the kind of man who loved deeply but couldn’t show it easily.
And now, after all this time, her phone rang — and it was her mother.
Sana’s eyes filled with tears. She didn’t know whether to smile or cry.
Her throat tightened as a thousand emotions hit her all at once — love, guilt, fear, hope.
> “Mamma…” she whispered softly, her voice trembling.
After a whole year of silence… her mother had finally called.
---
Sana quickly wiped her tears and said in a shaky voice,
“Mumma, is that you?”
She already knew the answer, but she needed to hear it again — just to believe it was real.

“Hae Maa, eita ami, tui kamon asish?”
(Yes, my daughter, it’s me. How are you?)
her mother’s voice cracked a little.
“Ami valo asi, Mumma… tumi kemon aso? Papa kemon ase? Barir sobai kemon ase?”
(I’m fine, Mumma. How are you? How is Papa? How’s everyone at home?)
Sana’s voice broke as tears rolled down her cheeks. On the other side, her mother was crying too.
“Tor papa valoi ase, barir sobai o valo ase. Kintu sobai toke onek miss kore.”
(Your father is fine. Everyone’s fine. But everyone misses you a lot.)
“Amio tomader onek miss kori.”
(I miss you all too…) Sana whispered, her voice trembling.
Her mother paused for a moment before asking softly,
“Are you… really happy?”
Sana smiled faintly through her tears. “Yeah… very much.”
Her mother sighed. “You did something in the past that was really unexpected for us. That’s why—”
But before she could continue, Sana quickly cut her off.
“Please, Mumma, just leave it. I don’t want to talk about the past. Tell me… where did you get my number?”
“From Riya,” her mother said quietly.
“Oh… I see. So, why did you call me after so many days?” Sana asked, sensing there was more behind this call.
“Actually… your Fupi (your father’s sister) wants to talk to you.”
Before Sana could respond, she heard the phone being snatched away.
“Maa tui kemon asish?!”
(How are you, my child?!)
Her Fupi’s voice came loud and warm through the speaker, full of excitement. Sana instantly started crying again.
“Ami valo asi, Fupi. Tumi kemon aso?”
(I’m fine, Aunty. How are you?) she said softly.
“Ami ar kemon thakbo jokhon barir boro meye 1 bochor dhore barite fere nai!”
(How can I be okay when the eldest daughter of the house hasn’t come home for a whole year?!) her Fupi scolded lovingly.
Sana smiled sadly. She had always shared a deep bond with her Fupi. Being the eldest daughter, everyone in the family adored her — but her Fupi loved her like her own child.
Before Sana could reply, her Fupi continued, “Anyway, I called to give you good news — Zia’s wedding got fixed! Her wedding is in a month!”
Sana’s face lit up instantly. “Really? That’s amazing, Fupi! I’m so happy for her!”
Her Fupi chuckled. “Don’t just be happy — I’m inviting you and your husband to the wedding! The date isn’t far, so come home this week.”
Sana hesitated. “But Fupi… is it really okay if I come? Papa might not be happy to see me…”
Her Fupi laughed proudly. “Your papa already gave permission. And even if he didn’t — I don’t need his permission. I’m his elder sister, after all!”
Sana let out a soft laugh. “You never change, Fupi.”
“Sana, just come back home. We’re all waiting for you and your husband. Everyone’s so excited to meet him.”
Sana’s eyes welled up again. Her voice came out barely above a whisper.
“Okay, Fupi… we’ll come. Who am I to say no to you, huh?”
Her Fupi chuckled. “That’s my girl! Come soon. As the eldest sister, you’ve got a lot of work to do. Come home this week, okay?”
Sana smiled tearfully. “Okay, Fupi.”
“Good. Take care, and come soon. We’re all waiting.”
When the call finally ended, Sana sat still for a moment, holding the phone close to her chest.
A small, soft smile spread across her lips.
After so long… she finally felt connected to her family again.
And her heart whispered quietly —
Maybe this was the beginning of healing.
